This video was shot and edited in one afternoon with the help of my neighbour Guy Lankester, who luckily didn’t really know what he was doing with my camera. This was perfect as I wanted it to be shaky and nicely out of focus in places to suit the mood of the song. The location is Walthamstow Marshes in east London.
It’s the first time I have ever edited a video before and my old PC was gently creaking under the strain… but I really enjoyed making it. A moment to remember was when the park warden tried to get all passive aggressive on us and then gave up and went away when told him we were taking my typewriter for a walk and asked if he wanted to be in the video.
This track is on my recently released 5th studio album ‘From The Ground Up’ which I really should tell more people about. Candy Parfitt is on backing vocals and I’m doing all the rest.
There has recently been a flurry of interest in my track ‘Hackney Gentrification Song’ with local publications N16 Magazine, Dalston TV and Hackney Post all giving it virtual shout outs.
It has also come to the attention of the film crew making ESTATE, a non-fiction feature film about a Hackney estate which is soon to be bulldozed. You can find out more about the film here and have a look at the ‘behind the scenes’ section of the site which uses my song.
